In March 2025, Illawarra Engineering Services was awarded the Structural, Mechanical, and Piping (SMP) construction package for BlueScope Steel’s Metal Coating Line 7 (MCL7) project, located in Erskine Park, Western Sydney. This significant milestone reinforces Illawarra Engineering’s role as a trusted delivery partner in Australia’s advanced manufacturing and industrial construction sectors.
BlueScope Steel Metal Coating Line Number 7 (MCL7) project is an ongoing development aimed at enhancing Australia’s steel manufacturing capabilities. With a planned processing capacity of 240,000 tonnes per annum, MCL7 is set to significantly impact the production of high-quality steel products for the construction, infrastructure, and housing sectors.
The SMP package includes full-scope delivery of:
- Structural Works – The fabrication and erection of structural steel frameworks, platforms, equipment supports, walkways, and access systems, aligned with the complex requirements of the MCL7 facility layout.
- Mechanical Installation – Assembly and installation of process equipment, including heavy machinery, rotating equipment, conveyors, and support systems—ensuring mechanical alignment and integration with the coating line infrastructure.
- Piping Systems – Installation of all process and utility piping, including pipework for air, gas, water, and chemical services. The scope covers welding, pressure testing, and mechanical connection of critical systems in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
