BlueScope Steel (BSL) engaged IES to demolish a series of suspended slabs and redundant industrial plant and infrastructure at their Port Kembla steel manufacturing plant.

Once all equipment had been removed and the basement roof demolished, IES was responsible for the filling and compaction of the basement using the agreed fill material.

IES, together with our subcontracting environmental partners developed a Resource Recovery Order and Resource Recovery Exemption to enable IES to import material that could technically fill the voids and generate enough revenue to enable the project to be cost neutral to our client. A process that had not been
achieved previously with the EPA.

In addition to this achievement, IES’s focus on safety allowed the work to be completed with zero lost time injuries, despite working predominately around operating plant.
