The Wilpinjong coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) Expansion project featured a collaborative delivery approach between Peabody and Ausenco Taggart. The scope of work of the expansion Included: a secondary ROM system featuring a 400 Tonne ROM bin, feeder breaker, scalping screen, secondary and tertiary stacker to deliver raw coal to a stockpile dedicated to the CPP. The total project value was $65,038,889.00 and the expansion is expected to increase seaborne production from the Wilpinjong Mine by 2 million to 3 million tons annually.

Key Milestones

March 2011 – Works begin on completing a major expansion project alongside existing mining operations requiring meticulous co-ordination and strong communication.

August 2011 – IES received and unloaded the last container of plate-work and structural steel from China.

October 2011 – Announcement of outstanding safety record with 298,000 construction hours with zero lost time incidents.

November 2011 – Upgrade to the CHPP occurred with minimal impact to existing operations and resulted in construction of an addition that matched the size and scale of the existing plant.
