The Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) project was the World’s first to convert coal seam gas to LNG. Thiess was the tier 1 contractor for the $2.1 billion construction of 17 field compression stations (FCS) and 4 central compression plants (CPP) in the Surat Basin. IES was engaged under a subcontract agreement to provide a self sufficient team of engineers, supervision and trades for numerous structural steel and pipe installation packages.
IES delivered the construction to client approved specifications primarily AS4100 “Steel Structures” and AS3990 “Mechanical Equipment – Steelwork”; for fabrication and erection of structural steel, and ASME16.5 “Pipe Flanges” and ASME B31.3 “Process Piping”, AS4041 “Pressure Piping” and AS2885 “Pipelines – Gas & Liquid Petroleum”, for the stock control, installation, welding and testing of the pipe work installations.
There was also a requirement for non destructive examination (NDE) of pipe welds in accordance with ASME V , hydro testing to AS4041 and nitrogen leak testing to ASME B31.3 for joint seal integrity. IES was heavily integrated into this process providing supervision, engineering inspection & sign off.
