  • $11M Invested – Incitec Pivot
  • $9M Invested – Carbon Energy
  • $36M total raising of funds

Key Components

May – IES wins the complete civil, mechanical and electrical scope of works to construct the 100 day trial plant.

June– Under a sub-contract agreement, IES commence remote camp accommodation construction with simultaneous survey and bulk earth works on site.

July– Directional drilling commenced. This component of the works was entrusted to Mitchell Drilling Corporation. Hazardous areas are classified in accordance with AS2430 and control measures are set in place to continue work.

August- IES commenced above ground infrastructure construction. Concrete works, with placement of bulk oxygen storage vessels, LPG bullets and piping, water storage tanks and piping, 350 Hp gas fired boiler, pipe rack and cable tray supports were installed. Hazardous area certified electrical personnel commenced cable pulling and installation of the Gas Chromatograph.

September– IES installed approx 2000meters of carbon and S/S process piping of varying diameters. Hazardous area certified electrical personnel terminated approx 100 exe cable glands onto equipment.

October- IES construction/commissioning phases overlap in order to facilitate the accelerated ‘burn day’ schedule.

Nov- Synthesis gas is produced and 100 day trial commences.

Outcome

The Carbon Energy UCG was an exciting and dynamic project for IES. Critical to an effective delivery of our customers objective was the accurately planned integration between operation commissioning and on-going construction activities. Open communication channels and strict adherence to isolation procedures and Codes of Practice were the control mechanisms to ensure zero harm to personnel whilst working on the ‘live’ plant.
